Sixteen years ago it was realised that an opportunity for a well organised, value for money, rally for Harley-Davidson® owners and enthusiasts throughout South Africa, existed in the East London area of the Eastern Cape. Gonubie with its hotel strategically positioned virtually at the water’s edge of a seaside bay was chosen as the venue. An outcrop of rocks at a popular fishing spot nearby gave it its name, and so in April 2007 the Black Rock Rally™ was born.
For six years the faithful returned to renew their acquaintances and explore the surrounding areas on the outrides and the Mass Rides. Then the sign boards went up advertising that Gonubie’s only access road was going to be upgraded and the decision was taken to move to the
Blue Lagoon Hotel, a riverside venue in the leafy suburb of Blue Bend.
Four years later amid fears that their facilities may be tested by the steady growth of attendances saw us move to the Hemingways complex for our 10th Anniversary!
Then we went full circle and came back to where it all began and have enjoyed five wonderful years at the surfside Gonubie Hotel.
